Did you know that children exposed to secondhand cigarette smoke are at an increased risk for frequent respiratory infections, ear infections, and asthma? The report of the Surgeon General, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services emphasizes that children are hurt by secondhand smoke. As cigarette smoke contains more than 250 chemicals known to be toxic or carcinogenic (cancer-causing), including formaldehyde, benzene, vinyl chloride, arsenic, ammonia, and hydrogen cyanide, the Surgeon General has concluded that there is no risk-free level of secondhand smoke exposure in children. How does prevent smoking in children? Here are 6 tips can you try.

1. Educate your children about the effects of smoking on the body. Talk about the way cigarette smoking yellows teeth and causes wrinkles. Share lung-cancer statistics and the fact that the majority of lung-cancer cases are smoking related. Be careful not to lecture your child. Sneak your lessons in during teachable moments that happen throughout the day.

2. Discuss the tobacco industry and the practices it uses to get people addicted to smoking with your kids. Point out different advertising techniques and how they try to make smoking appear glamorous and sensational.

3. Talk to your kids when they are 5 or 6 years old about the dangers of smoking. According to the American Cancer Society, “many kids start using tobacco by age 11.” Although 5 may seem like a young age to begin your talks, the earlier your kids hear the facts from you, the less likely they are to turn to the media and friends for smoking advice.

4. Stop smoking if you are a smoker, or at least try to stop. Your children watch everything you do, and if you smoke, you send a message that it is acceptable.

5. Share your regrets frankly if you are a smoker who is unable to quit. Be honest regarding your feelings about smoking and how hard it is to stop. Explain to your children how smoking is an expensive habit and is not socially acceptable in many situations. Don’t be too hard on yourself, though — you can still provide a useful example, because you have first-hand knowledge about the difficulties involved with smoking.

6. Monitor your kids’ friends, and try to find out if they smoke. Talk to your child about different ways she can refuse to smoke if her friends try to pressure her.

Everyone knows smoking is not good. However, it can be hard to put into words. Now it’s the time for you to make this important decision to help you understand that now is the time to make that decision to stop smoking. Smoke from cigars, cigarettes, and pipes harms your body in many ways – and exposure to secondhand smoke is also very harmful as most people know. Anyway, in this article I would like to inform how smoking affect your mouth.

Color

The effects of smoking of teeth occur rather quickly. It doesn’t take long for the nicotine and tar to begin staining your teeth and causing them to become yellow. Chronic smokers can even have brown teeth if they have been smoking for years. This is very unattractive.

Bad Breath

Smoking causes chronic bad breath or halitosis. This can not be fixed by brushing your teeth or using mouthwash. Anyone who gets near your face will know you are a smoker.

Reduced Blood Flow

Smoking causes poor circulation. This reduces the blood flow to the gums. The gums are deprived of essential nutrients so they begin to suffer from disease. Because of the reduced blood flow, your gums may not bleed, so you may not know something is wrong until it is too late. You can even lose your teeth because of the gum disease.

Oral Cancer

Smoking causes oral cancer. This comes from the over 4,000 chemicals found in a single cigarette. The bad news is that most oral cancer patients die within 5 years. This is because oral cancer is not usually detected until it is in its advanced stage.

There are many people today who can consider themselves positive thinkers, living a happy and fulfilling life. But, what if positive thinking doesn’t work? Generally, it could actually be a root cause of people living life in a vicious cycle. I think you don’t want this condition. So, here are 10 tips to make positive thinking work for you.

1. Believe – You need to believe. You can not pretend to be a positive thinker. In positive thinking, you can not fake it because there is no one to pretend to. If somebody merely believes that you are a positive thinker, how can that benefit you? The most important of the ten rules of the power of positive thinking is that you yourself should believe it.

2. Be objective – This is very important in the ten rules for the power of positive thinking. Many people tend to see their lives for their failures and thus, they lose all hope of ever attaining in their goal. Some other people, filled with false pride, tend to magnify their success and they make all the wrong decisions.

3. Surround yourself with people who have a positive attitude – When you are engaged in an internal battle between your negative and positive self, you will need all the help you can get. Do not surround yourself with negative people who will just drag your positive attitude to the floor with their negativity.

4. Be healthy – All of the positive thinking in the world will not help you if you are six feet under, can it? You have to keep your body healthy in order to fuel your positive thinking. One step to achieving the power of positive thinking is looking after your body.

5. Switch negativity around – Remove all negative thoughts by repelling it outright when something negative enters your personality. Channel that energy into positive thoughts. Positive quotes and positive affirmations will help to keep negativity away.

6. Be patient – Positive thinking is not immediate. You need to reprogram yourself in order to get remove any negative attitude you possess.

7. Remember that other people can sense your negativity – Before you do anything, be sure to have the right attitude. One reason why people fail is because others can sense their negative attitude and want no part of it. Positive thoughts, positive thinking, and positive affirmation create a positive attitude

8. Be positive – Always look for something positive in everything new. When you encounter something unfamiliar, do not be afraid. Take a hard look at it and see it for the positive effects it brings, this will make your life easier.

9. Pace yourself – You need to pace yourself in order to prevent yourself from collapsing. Take life one day at a time. Remember that you can not hurry into being positive. Be patient and you will achieve a positive attitude.

10. Apply the change – The main characteristic of these ten rules of the power of positive thinking is the fact that they only bring you to the door. You have to open it yourself. Many individuals do not realize this, but we need these rules in order to appreciate life more. Some people think rules limit our achievements, but this is untrue. Without any rules, we would have been extinct centuries ago. Rules remove the chaos that is called life and impose sanity into it.

Try to do 10 tips and get positive thinking as soon as possible.

Previously I wrote about reasons why people should stop smoking. Now, I try to share successful alternative methods to stop smoking. I believe these methods will help you to quit smoking.

Below you will find these alternative methods:

1. Herbal remedies

Herbal remedies have been used throughout time to cure nearly every kind of malady and many modern prescription medicines contain either real herbal properties or synthesized versions of them. Most herbal stop smoking alternative remedies contain valerian, as well as Yarrow and chamomile to help you stay calm and ease the craving for a cigarette during stressful situations. Lobelia can help ease nicotine withdrawal symptoms and is nearly always found in herbal stop smoking alternative products. Although potentially toxic, lobelia is safe when used correctly. Because of the possibility of harmful or fatal drug interaction, always consult your doctor before initiating any herbal stop smoking alternative remedy programs.

2. Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a popular method in treating many ailments, and can be a successful stop smoking alternative. The key to stopping smoking by using acupuncture is in finding a highly skilled practitioner of this ancient Chinese treatment. Hair thin acupuncture needles are inserted at various points on the ear, where they remain for 20 minutes. No studies conducted on acupuncture as an effective stop smoking alternative have proven true, but there have been enough positive results to warrant further study.

3. Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is more an aid to stop smoking alternative remedies than an actual remedy. Certain oils and essences added to a carrier oil, such as jojoba oil, can be inhaled through a tissue, rubbed on the pulse points or used in a pottery diffuser to surround you with calming aromas, some of which are believed to curb nicotine cravings.

4. Hypnosis

Hypnosis is one of the most widely used methods of stop smoking alternatives. Its efficacy lies in the fact that it treats your subconscious mind, where your cigarette addiction resides, and is believed to strengthen your determination to quit smoking, while changing both your behavior and your mental image of yourself from smoker to non-smoker. Experts agree that more than one hypnosis session is necessary to complete the job, and this can be quite expensive.

Do you have another alternative methods? Please share below.

Why women should stop smoking? Because smoking can reduce a woman’s risk of heart disease, lung disease and cancer (see detail in why people should stop smoking).

Giving up smoking can also extend a woman’s life expectancy by up to 10 years. Here are some tips to help you give up on this addictive habit.

1. Time your quitting day to coincide with your menstrual cycle.

Nicotine withdrawal symptoms are hard to deal with, especially when they peak, which is usually during the second half of the menstrual cycle for women. According to researchers, you should set your quitting date for the first day of your cycle. This will give you several days to get used to the withdrawal symptoms before they peak.

2. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

With the help of social support, you can increase your chances of quitting by as much as 50%. Nicotine Anonymous or other social support groups can help you find a local group with which to work during this time.

3. Get medical help

There are several drugs on the market that can help you with your withdrawal symptoms from nicotine. Don’t be afraid to go to your doctor and ask him to prescribe some medications that will help you.

4. Drink lots of water

Water can help flush residual nicotine out of your system. It can also ease discomfort associated with quitting, including constipation, coughing and the urge to eat.

5. Fight depression

Depression is one of the hardest things you will have to overcome, especially if you are a woman trying to quit smoking. Again, don’t be afraid to talk to your doctor and ask him if an anti-depressant might be appropriate to help you curb your cigarette cravings.

6. Exercise more.

According to research, those who quit smoking and start exercising three times a week are twice as likely to succeed in quitting smoking as those those don’t exercise.

I hope this quick tips can help women to stop smoking.

There are many benefits to stopping smoking. These benefits are the reason why you should stop smoking.

The background of the reasons based on 10 facts that apply to everyone who smokes. These are 10 major health problems and every single time you take a puff, you increase your risk of developing one of them.

1. Lung Cancer

Almost every case of lung cancer in the world, 90% according to recent research, is caused by cigarette smoke. Either the victim smoked or was constantly exposed to second hand smoke.

This has to be at the top of your list of reasons to stop smoking, because the 5 year survival rate for people diagnosed with lung cancer is as low as 1%. Even in the best case scenario, the survival rate is not above 67%. In other words, most people who get lung cancer die.

So, why stop smoking? You may think that because you smoke now, you’ve already done irreversible damage, but the risk of developing lung cancer goes down gradually for every year that you do not smoke. After 15 years of not smoking, your risk is no greater than that of a person who never smoked.

2. Other Types of Cancer

One of the reasons that smokers are more likely to develop and die from lung cancer is that nicotine suppresses mechanisms in the immune system that would normally prevent the growth of cancerous tumors. Thus, smokers and those who use other forms of tobacco are more likely to develop cancers of all types than a person who does not use tobacco.

3. Emphysema

In emphysema, the lungs are damaged to the point that they are no longer elastic. It becomes difficult to exhale. It is accompanied by wheezing and shortness of breath and is irreversible. Even if you have been told or you believe that you are in the early stages of this disease, it is still one of the most important reasons to stop smoking, because when people with emphysema stop smoking and avoid all exposure to cigarette smoke, the progression of the disease slows down dramatically.

4. Heart Disease

Why stop smoking? Smoking leads to reduced blood flow in the arteries. Eventually this can lead to a heart attack. After 1 year of not smoking, your risk of developing heart disease is reduced by more than half.

5. High Blood Pressure

The nicotine and other chemicals in cigarette smoke increase your blood pressure. Over time this can damage the large arteries and tiny blood vessels. Eventually this can lead to one of the other reasons to stop smoking…

6. Stroke

Uncontrolled high blood pressure is the number one risk factor for having a stroke. Number four is cigarette smoking. Number two is heart disease, which can be caused by cigarette smoking. Why stop smoking? After only a few days of not smoking, your blood pressure will be lower, reducing your risk of having a sudden stroke that can end your life or cause permanent brain damage.

7. Blindness

This is probably one of the reasons to stop smoking that you have never heard of. You don’t see this warning on a cigarette pack, but three separate studies all came to the same conclusion. Smokers are four times more likely to become blind because of age related macular degeneration than non-smokers.

Macular degeneration is a severe and progressive condition in which the central vision is lost. It is one of the most common causes of blindness in the elderly. Why stop smoking? Former smokers, those who have quit, have only a slightly greater risk than those who never smoked.

8. Alzheimer’s disease

The rate of mental decline is five times faster in smokers than in non-smokers. If you have any family history of Alzheimer’s or other neurological conditions, this should be one of your top reasons to stop smoking now, unless, you want to be a burden to your family or simply forget them.

9. Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis and other Auto-immune Diseases

Lupus is a chronic disease that causes pain and inflammation. Eventually there can be tissue damage throughout the body. Why stop smoking? Current smokers have an increased risk for the development of lupus, but for those who have quit, there is no increased risk.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic and sometimes disabling disease characterized by painful, swollen joints. Scientists have identified several genetic risk factors for developing RA. Smokers with one of these genetic risk factors are 16 times more likely to have rheumatoid arthritis.

Lupus and Rheumatoid arthritis are classified as auto-immune diseases. Because nicotine impairs the proper function of the immune system, cigarette smoking can increase your risk of developing either one of these auto-immune diseases. Studies concerning these facts were published recently in the Journal of Arthritis and

10. Risk of infertility

If you are a woman who smokes, you have an increased risk of infertility, an increased chance of miscarriage, an increased risk of giving birth prematurely, giving birth to children with low birth weight, giving birth to children who have colic and losing your child to SIDS.
